Marriott International to create 5,000 Jobs in the UAE

Marriott International said it expects to add 11 new properties in the UAE by year-end, with a robust development outlook over the next five years.

Year-to-date, the company has added six new properties and is scheduled to add five more in the country - bringing its portfolio in the UAE to 59 properties and over 17,000 rooms across six Emirates by the end of the year.

Two of the company’s openings this year feature regional brand debuts - the eco-conscious Element Hotels brand, which opened earlier this year in Dubai, and the EDITION brand, which is scheduled to open in Abu Dhabi later this year, Marriott said in a statement.

The company added that it plans to further enhance its footprint in the UAE with the addition of more than 20 new properties in the next five years. The company expects this development pipeline could generate over 5,000 new jobs in the country.

Arne Sorenson, president and CEO, Marriott International said: “Our success in the Middle East stems from our long-established presence in the market and the value we deliver to our owner-partners. It is the trust owners have in Marriott International, combined with our differentiated brands and collective strength of our global platform, that has put us in a position to further expand our portfolio in the country and strengthen guest loyalty.”

He added: “We are privileged to have the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing growth and diversification of the UAE’s economy and remain committed to supporting the direction of its visionary leaders to further enhance the tourism sector.”

He said 2018 has been a milestone year for Marriott International in the UAE, with the company anticipating having added over 2,600 rooms by year-end.

The company said it is also seeing an increased demand for branded residences in the UAE and across the region. Across the Middle East and Africa, Marriott currently operates three branded residential properties, including the Bulgari Residences in Dubai, and anticipates to more than double its residential portfolio in the region with eight projects scheduled to open by 2022.

Microsoft, cloud services to create 55,000 Jobs in UAE

Microsoft’s technology ecosystem and the growing popularity of cloud services will create more than 55,000 jobs in the UAE by the end of 2022, according to new research.

The International Data Corporation (IDC) study analyses the impact of ICT, cloud services, and the Microsoft ecosystem on the UAE economy between 2017 and 2022.

It shows that implementation of nationwide initiatives such as UAE Vision 2021 and Smart Dubai – and other initiatives focused on tourism, healthcare, transportation and education – has led to a rise in IT spending and employment.

IDC predicts spending on public cloud services in the UAE will almost quadruple over the next five years, from AED439 million in 2017 to AED1.51 billion ($410 million) in 2022.
Between the end of 2017 and the end of 2022, adoption of cloud services will create nearly 31,650 new jobs and the Microsoft technology ecosystem will add 23,800 jobs for a total of 55,450 in net job creation.

The Microsoft ecosystem – the companies that sell, service, deploy, or otherwise work with Microsoft products – supported more than 71,250 workers in 2017, it added.

IDC analysts also said the use of public cloud services, combined with investments in private and hybrid cloud solutions, will “enable organisations in UAE to innovate and achieve their [digital] transformation goals”.

The report said the benefits emanating from this digital transformation trend are set to generate around AED20 billion in net new revenues over the next five years.

“Digital transformation has the power to engage customers and citizens, empower employees, optimise operations and reinvent products and services,” said Sayed Hashish, regional general manager, Microsoft Gulf. “IDC’s report clearly shows that private and public organisations have realised these benefits, and are directly or indirectly creating jobs as they invest in their futures.”

In March, Microsoft announced that it would open dedicated cloud data centres in Abu Dhabi and Dubai to serve customers across the Middle East and Africa.

The company said it believes the provision of cloud services through regional data centres will help start-ups to more quickly realise their potential, as well as accelerating the adoption of public cloud services within government agencies and regulated industries such as banking and finance, telecoms and healthcare.

Indian company Oyo Hotels to offer 10,000 Jobs in UAE

Indian hospitality brand Oyo Hotels will create over 10,000 jobs in the UAE within the next three years as it aims to expand its footprint across all emirates and will also open a training facility in the country, a senior executive said.

"We have five institutes in China and 20 in India. We created 100,000 jobs in India and 60,000 in China. We hope to create jobs for tens of thousands of UAE natives who can get trained at this facility; once they are trained, they can choose Oyo Hotels or any other brand of their choice. We are scouting for a location to set up a hospitality training academy in the UAE. The training will be free," said Ritesh Agarwal, founder and CEO, Oyo Hotels.

The company currently operates 1,200 rooms in the UAE and aims to have 12,000 keys added to its UAE portfolio by 2020.

India's largest hospitality company hopes the number of hotels under franchise and lease management will reach 150 across the UAE by 2020. It currently operates rooms in Dubai, Sharjah and Fujairah.

Agarwal said the company is trying to make sure that it can fulfil the capacity for 12,000 rooms that it intends to bring in by 2020.

"On average, we have to create a capacity of at least 500 people a month which will translate into 3,000 to 5,000 on an annualised basis," Agarwal said in Dubai.

"There are so many companies who have been able to market Dubai across the world. For the common man coming from Asia and Europe, they find it difficult to find good quality living spaces. So, we lease the apartment and sell it through online portals and our platform at affordable rates. Nowadays, people don't want to spend money on hotels but on sight-seeing and new experiences," Agarwal said.

The group operates townhouses in India and the UK and will add townhouses to its UAE portfolio.

"With over 170 countries committing to the World Expo 2020, the hospitality sector in the Middle East, and more specifically the UAE, is poised to grow substantially and, we are ready to tap this opportunity. We've been at the forefront of the budget and mid-segment hotel revolution in the markets we operate in," he said.
